Position SummaryThe Senior Accounting Analyst will work closely with payroll accounting teammates to become a payroll accounting subject matter expert, maintaining working relationships with peers within the Human Resources, Finance Program Office, IT, Rates and Regulatory teams, as well as Alight Solutions, the company's third-party payroll processor. Responsibilities for this role will include, but not be limited to, the distribution processing, accounting, and analysis of the company's bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payroll cycles utilizing the Labor Distribution System (LDS) application, preparation of monthly manual journal entries, account reconciliations and related analysis.
This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.
ResponsibilitiesWork with the Human Resources team and other parties to analyze payroll activity used to prepare general ledger account reconciliations for payroll taxes, garnishments, employee relocation, employee receivables, fixed labor distribution accounts, employee accounts receivable, payroll bank accounts, and retention awards.
Prepare labor data support for various regulatory requests and audits.
Process and record cost of employees' direct labor, taxes, deductions and withholdings, net pay, and employer taxes (FICA, FUTA, SUTA).
Redistribute labor cost for semi-monthly employees from fixed code block to code block based on employees' MyTime timesheet data.
Work with business units to reclassify activity recorded to suspense accounts.
Maintain LDS process documentation and SOX documentation, as needed.
Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
CPA or working toward CPA
Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience
Experienced in fundamentals of payroll and/or payroll accounting concepts
Public accounting or audit experience
Highly motivated self-directed individual with demonstrated organizational, analytical, problem solving and project management skills who can work with moderate direction or supervision
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience in the preparation of complex G/L account reconciliations

Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable dailycommute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
