MAINTENANCE ENGINEER


SUMMARY: Provides Engineering expertise to the facility for the discharge of assigned projects in the areas of machine design, plant and facility design / construction, equipment installation, quality improvements and safety. The position also provides extensive Engineering support for Maintenance functions and Production activities. This person will, at times assist the Plant Engineer in the planning, directing, and coordinating of the activities concerned with the Engineering and Maintenance departments. This position will entail a more hands on approach to projects than the Engineering position but will also require an in depth knowledge of sound Electrical or Mechanical engineering and trade practices.


Reporting Relationship: Plant Engineer


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Provide 'nuts and bolts' level Engineering / Design for daily maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Hands-on project involvement including fabrication, assembly and installation of apparatus and machinery.
  • Understand the functionality of the equipment within the facility to assess production needs and improvement possibilities.
  • A thorough knowledge of PLC based systems, process control / instrumentation, and A.C. / D.C. motor control architecture.
  • Project management, both actual, functional, and financial.
  • Provide training for operators, supervisors, managers, and maintenance personnel in the areas of machine operation, troubleshooting and safety.
  • Through close involvement with the daily activities of the shift maintenance personnel, be aware of repetitive problems, and generate proposed resolutions for those issues.
  • Understand and assist implementation of administrative systems within the Engineering / Maintenance Department.
  • Create and/or assist in the creation of manuals.
  • Create / generate documentation for projects including but not limited to drawings, schematics, layouts and flowcharts.
  • Must possess a good understanding and respect for electrical and rotating machinery.
  • Must possess a healthy work ethic and positive attitude toward APC and the facility and management.
  • Adhere to all company safety guidelines
  • Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, in the supervision of the maintenance staff as directed or designated by the Plant Engineer. In particular, during times when the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor are not in the plant, the Engineering Technician may be assigned to perform those duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
