Gwen Ifill Washington Week Fellow

Position not to exceed 5 months; Stipend of $3,000/month (minus applicable taxes and withholdings)

Start date: December 2021

Do you have a passion for journalism, new media and public television? The Gwen Ifill Washington Week Fellowship for emerging journalists is where you can gain hands-on, real-world experience working on "Washington Week," the longest running news analysis program on PBS.

In an average week, you can expect to:

• Work as part of the producing team to create the weekly show.
• Collaborate with the Moderator and Senior Producer to research national/international news stories, gather video elements, monitor and log live news events.
• Produce video, sound, and graphic elements for the broadcast, social media and website.
• Update program website.
• Contribute to the show's social media outreach.

What success looks like:

• After 60 days, you'll know and understand our workflows and have built relationships with colleagues outside of the department and know our editorial style.
• After 120 days, you'll be bringing new and vibrant ideas to pitch meetings and then executing on those ideas.

You must have:

• Ability to work remotely and a flexible schedule (i.e. some weekend work).
• Knowledge of television news and video production, including familiarity with AVID, Final Cut and/or Adobe Premier editing, digital shooting and Photoshop.
• Sound editorial judgement, solid broadcast writing skills and careful attention to detail.
• College degree, with a major in journalism, digital media, communication, history, or political science preferred.

You should have:

• Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS, Drupal, or familiarity with other CMS is helpful.
• Keen interest and broad knowledge of national and world events, politics, and history.
• Background in web production is helpful.
